In less than 24 hours, 3 Girls shot in Atlanta

I’m tripping right now, because when I was watching the news this morning, I was wondering why they had been on the same story all morning.  Once I went on with the day I realized that three girls under the age of 16 were shot in less than 24hrs in the city limits of Atlanta, GA.

A 15-year-old girl has died after she was shot outside her boyfriend’s southwest Atlanta home Thursday evening, police said. Authorities found the teen with a chest wound in the garage of the Greenleaf Circle home about 5:30 p.m., Channel 2 Action News reported. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

“Investigators believe there were additional people at the home at the time of the shooting,” Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement. “(They) are speaking with potential witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify any suspects.” The victim’s boyfriend is being questioned. However, he is not considered a suspect, according to Channel 2.

A motive has not been determined. “We have various stories that we are trying to vet through,” Atlanta police Capt. Reginald Moorman told the news station. “We don’t want to hone in on any one particular story until we can verify (it).” Three guns were inside the home, according to Channel 2.  The teen was one of three girls shot in less than 24 hours in Atlanta.

Police said a 14-year-old girl was walking along Memorial Drive near Moreland Avenue with two females Thursday night when they heard gunshots. “It appears the shooting may have occurred between two passing vehicles and the victim was struck (in the shoulder) by a stray round,” Chafee said. Atlanta police said the girl first arrived at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding with the two females before she was taken to CHOA’s Egleston location. Her condition is not known.

And just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, a 10-year-old girl was shot in the leg and buttocks as she watched television in her southwest Atlanta home, police said. Officers were called to the 2500 block of Susan Lane after someone opened fire on the residence, according to Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah.

She was taken to Egleston, and was stable, police said.

No one has been arrested in any of the shootings.
